Minneapolis mini-staycation

Sorry if you already caught these on Instagram, but I also want a record on my blog. I took some film photos too, but as usual those won't be viewable anytime soon.

R and I took a date weekend in Minneapolis: a night at The Marquette, a run along the river, cocktails at Stilheart, dinner at demi. It was great!

Downtown felt eerily quiet during the pandemic, but you know what, you can still get out there and do things if you are smart and safe about it, like Mary Tyler Moore here:

Grandma Linda watched the kids for us. They gave us some rocks they painted and we positioned them around the city. Here's where we put one of Omri's:

Back in orange

Omri is playing another season of soccer, albeit one that is slightly modified due to the pandemic. I think the benefits are worth the risk.

He had his first game on Monday and he even scored a goal!

He looks so much older and athletic this year:

Look at that hustle!

I will try to take some more photos before the season is through.

Pause

I know things have been a little quiet around here. I'm in the middle of a transition to a new PC and haven't had easy access to my photos or the ability to edit them for a few days. And to be honest, I haven't taken a lot of family shots lately anyway. When I'm up and running again, I hope to sort through my archives and post some outtakes. It's been a while since I've done that... and the idea of picking them out is getting more and more daunting because there are so many to choose from.

Thanks for staying tuned!

Fourth in the north

We had a great 4th of July visiting family, eating, and doing a ton of swimming.

Taking a ride with Grandpa:

Two cousins at the beach:

Now, if I could just Lennon to smile for me...

That's a little better:

Jumping in:

Happy to catch a classic Veronica expression:

Don't shoot:

Love this one with Grandma:

Ezra spent more time in the water than out:

Snuggles on the dock:

Waiting for fireworks:

Okay, now we're getting some nice light:

Snack time:

One more swim the next morning:

Lennon must be excited to become a big brother in the fall:

Next time, let's do the group photo at sunset instead:

Fun weekend! Thank you to my in-laws!

Split Rock Lighthouse State Park

We went camping on the North Shore for two nights.

We could not have asked for more beautiful weather.

We skipped a lot of rocks.

There's the lighthouse:

This was a dangerous business, but nobody got too wet:

Stylish kid:

Back to the campsite for marshmallows... Omri prefers them "raw":

Veronica is learning the art of roasting the perfect marshmallow from her mother:

How you spend time when you are away from screens:

Cart-in campsites are the way to go for a bit of privacy. We were right on the lake too, although you can't really see it in this photo:

The next morning... here's a better view of the lake, just down from our site:

This is on a hike to a waterfall:

We spent the afternoon on the warm, smooth rocks of the beach. The water was unbearably cold. The kids did not make it all the way in. I made it up to my neck. R was the only one who put her head under... but not for long!

Omri really wanted to get out to that island:

Omri had so much fun scrambling up the rocks around our campsite:

He had a seriously good time and did not want to leave.

Veronica was less enthused about camping, although I know she had some fun, whether she will admit it or not.

It was a short but sweet trip. We took our new vehicle with a new bike rack on the back, and it seemed to work out well.

Glad to get out of the house and see some more of Minnesota!
