Spring band concert 2026

Here's a clip of Omri playing percussion in his school's spring band performance. I've always kind of wanted to be a drummer, so seeing him hitting a snare drum in this show made me very proud. He has good rhythm!

Rookie of the year

MPA's rookie of the year in theater goes to...

Veronica!

Here's the plaque:

She also received recognition for her number of volunteer hours (in the top 5 of the freshmen class). Way to go, V!

Lego robotics challenge 2025

Omri had a big event last weekend when he and his team competed in a robotic challenge.

Here's a look at the robot:

It wasn't a big year for winning... but they are a young team.

Omri drew the comic on the poster board you see here. It was used in a presentation to some judges.

Closer up look:

Crackin' open a cold one between rounds:

Tabulating the score:

Way to go, Omri!

Halloween Ball 2025

I was the official "roaming" photographer at the Upper Elementary ball at Omri's school. I feel weird posting pictures of other peoples' kids, so I'm keeping this minimal (leaving some of my favorite results out) and only showing faces in this group shot:

Every year my photos get a little further "out there," but because they are for Halloween, I wouldn't have them any other way.

HOCO 2025

I got these before she left for the Homecoming dance. What a gorgeous girl!

And here she is with some friends (iPhone photos by R). The school keeps things pretty informal for this dance. Their outfits were apparently loosely inspired by Strawberry Shortcake characters!

First of 9th

First day of high school, for that matter!

Apparently, R's outfit here is a reference to the first episode of Gilmore Girls, in which the teenage girl starts at a new private school. I applaud the commitment.

Veronica graduates from Oak Hill

She started pre-school at Oak Hill Montessori at age 2. Now, 12 years later, Veronica's time there has come to a close. I am super proud of her and how far she has come during that time!

Here are some highlights from the bittersweet graduation ceremony (sorry for the shaky camera!):

With some very special teachers, Heidi and Katie:

Can't help but look back at a time like this:

Choir & band concert, spring 2025

Veronica's final choir performance at Oak Hill:

And I don't think she'll be continuing with the flute in high school, so this feels like an even more final performance:

A few video snippets too:

A Cosmic Carol

Omri was a percussionist in the upper elementary play! I snapped this shot of him on the side of the stage before the lights went down:

Here's the set the kids designed and painted:

Omri is not interested in acting right now. I give him total respect for doing his own thing. He's starting band this summer and already has a head start on percussion from his piano playing and from helping write and perform a soundtrack to this play. Here is with the base bars:

Solstice Festival 2024

Still catching up on the month a bit...

Veronica sold homemade candles at the junior high market to raise money for her upcoming trip to Washington DC:

Thank you to Grandma Linda for the help in making them. They turned out beautifully:

She also sang and played the flute:

I did not have a good vantage point for the band, so we only have video of her singing:
