Mother's Day 2026

Poor R was sick with a bad cold on Mother's Day this year. On the positive side, it resulted in her staying in bed long enough for the kids to join her there like the old days!

Since we might not make it to Folk Fest this summer, I made her a book of photos from all the times we did go up there.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

We also made some fresh entries in the Mother's Day journal.

Veronica "arranged" for some Crumbl cookies for mom:

And we got out to brunch at our favorite neighborhood restaurant (Churchill St):

Also wanted to shout out a happy Mother's Day to my own mom!

And to my mother-in-law!

Wonderful ladies, all of them!

Mother's Day 2025

We went to church and out to Washington Square for brunch.

Looking through the new entries in her Mother's Day journal:

She also received a Cribbage board. Omri read the instructions out loud.

Our new siding is on the house, so were finally able to put the deck together and enjoy the space.

We ended the day with some s'mores made on our new tabletop s'mores maker (a gift from our church for teaching Sunday School this year).

Nevermind that our tabletop was our firepit... this was still more convenient (and less smokey).

Mother's Day 2024

Veronica delivered her beautiful poem, "First Best Friend," at two church services that morning.

Then we had a quick take-and-bake brunch before V had to run off to another performance of Finding Nemo Jr.

There was time later to look through the Mother's Day Journal (still one of the best gift ideas ever that I would encourage dads to start for moms right after kids are born).

Mother's Day 2023

Our tweenager didn't make it to our bed for our usual Mother's Day tradition of bringing R coffee and taking a look at updates to the Mother's Day journal, so we went to her bed instead! (You can catch a glimpse of the new headboard Grandpa Rak built for V in this photo too.)

Flowers from the Oak Hill plant sale:

Everyone is dressed so nice and colorfully for church:

The day started off rainy but ended up being quite nice. We had a take-and-bake brunch from Colossal Cafe, planted some plants, cleaned a car, and relaxed a bit too. We are thankful for the Mother's in our lives, including our beloved R.

Mother's Day 2022

Well, our tradition of surprising mom in bed with coffee and gifts this year was moved to the couch because Omri was not feeling well, and Veronica slept in a bit (although she put effort into get up earlier than usual on a weekend). We also skipped church due to the illness, but we had a tasty take-and-bake brunch at home. Life has been a little crazy lately, so we'll take the quiet days at home when we can get them. These kids are lucky to have a mom who prioritizes them and is more in touch with them emotionally than I can claim to be. Happy Mother's Day to R and to our fantastic moms as well!

Mother's Day 2020

As is our usual tradition, we surprised R in bed with a cup of coffee (in a new photo mug) and a cinnamon roll.

Looking through this year's additions to the Mother's Day journal:

Momma loves her kids:

Veronica's gift to mom was providing table space while she ate:

Time to relax on the couch:

Tulips:

We made it out for a bike ride, but otherwise it was a quiet Mother's Day at home.

Mother's Day 2019

Always fun to surprise momma in the morning (this time she was up before the kids so we sent her back to bed):

(These might not be the obvious choices for photos, but I worked very hard to find some that have never yet been posted on this blog.)

Mother's Day 2018

Our tradition is to surprise momma in bed with a cup of coffee and some gifts.

I know that look--this guy has some saved up energy:

Nothing says relaxing like having a three-year-old running around on your bed:

Saved by a potty break:

We were able to celebrate with Grandma Linda this year:
