21 years

21 years of marriage! Look at these kids... I don't know if they knew what they were getting themselves into. A little bit of everything, really. Partners for life. I'm glad to be doing this with my best friend. Love you, honey!

First digital photo of us

This is the first digital photo I ever took of us, way back in 2002. We pretty much invented the selfie because this was taken with my video camera, which happened to have a swivel screen on it, allowing us to see ourselves. Still cameras at the time didn't have that capability and cell phones definitely didn't have front facing cameras yet, if they had cameras on them at all.

A lot has changed over the years I have known R. We've been married for 19 of them as of today. We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into at the time we said our vows. Marriage is full of frustrations and challenges but also of moments that easily make it worth it. I found a wonderful partner in R. I've always felt our strengths and weaknesses complement the other's well, and the more time we spend together, I think, the more that becomes apparent. Happy anniversary, my love!

Our actual anniversary is today, and you know I love to bring out old photos to mark the occasion (see my history tag for more). This year's selection was taken at the Como Park Conservatory late in the spring after we first met. We were just a couple of kids!

We've lived a lot of life since then and have a ways to go. It sure is nice to have a lovely partner like R to experience it all with. Happy anniversary, my dear R!

17 years

R and I celebrated 17 years of marriage this weekend. You've seen photos from our Alabama wedding before, but these are from the reception held for extended family and friends in Minnesota about a month after that. They are extra special because 1) they were shot on film and 2) they were taken by R's uncle Roger who owned a photography business with his wife, Beckie, at the time. Aunt Beckie died of cancer last week, so it seems appropriate to post these. We have fond memories of visiting Roger and Beckie's lake cabin in the summers. She will be missed.

They feel a little bit our wedding photos from an alternate universe, but I love having them.

Great capture here with my grandparents (including long-time blog reader, Grandma Krezel):

Jeff turns 2

I am interrupting my coverage of St. Lucia to post this 8mm film footage that was taken by my dad 41 years ago. The music was written and recorded by my younger brother Trevor. You can see my older brother, my mom, and most of my cousins (well, the ones that were born by this time) around the table. I'm really happy to have this recording and to look back on it on my birthday. Good job, dad.

Mud Brothers

Here's something a little different. My dad shot this on 8mm film in the 1980s and we transferred it to video many years ago. (I would like to do a new transfer to HD video one day.) I cut the footage down, rearranged it a bit, and added some music that my friend Jonah recorded. I like how this little clip tells a story about me and my brother. Take a look.

Our first house

We're having some work done at our current house and it has been on our minds a lot lately, so for my wedding anniversary post this year, it seemed appropriate to show the two of us in front of our first house. This was in Alabama, of course.

Times were simpler then. We owned a kitchen then.

Happy 16th anniversary, honey!

Wow, we've been married 15 years now and together for 20, which is about half our lives. I'm not sure we knew what we were getting ourselves into on that rainy Saturday at a small church in Alabama, but I wouldn't trade the time since for anything in the world... well, maybe for something on Mars. No, not even that.

Here's a little look back on our wedding, just for fun. All photos taken by One Fine Day Photography.

R turns 8, just kidding

If I'm counting the candles correctly, this classic photo was taken when my lovely wife turned 8 years old. That was 31 years ago, if you want to do the math and find out her current age.

Happy birthday, R!

And for comparison purposes, here's a photo of Veronica when she turned 8 last October.

2002

Happy 14th anniversary to my beloved R! This photo from Spring Break 2002 is on display in our house, so perhaps it's not as rarely seen as some other "historical" ones I've posted, but it is one of my favorites. Look how young and happy we were! Today, at least we're still happy :-).

Engaged

Happy 13th anniversary to my lovely partner in life. To mark the occasion on this blog, here's one of our lesser seen engagement photos, taken in Alabama in 2004:

The photo is by One Fine Day Photography, who, it's nice to see, is still in business!

The year 2000

Today we celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary. This photo dates back five more years to the spring during which we first met. We looked a lot alike back then!

An early adventure

Happy anniversary to my beloved R. Here were are the East Maui Volcano, better known as Haleakalā, during our honeymoon 11 years ago. The tour guide picked us up in the middle of the night so that we could see the sun rise over the gigantic crater of the volcano and bike the long road down afterwards.

I'm very lucky to  have a wife who plans things for us to do. If it were up to me, we'd never leave the house (or while on a honeymoon, the hotel), but I'm always happy to have gone on an adventure when it's all said and done. R has been impeccably planning them for as long as I've known her, right up through our latest trip to California or even dinner on our anniversary.

Thank you, sweetheart, my making my life (and my blog) more interesting!
