Alaska trip, part 7: boat trip to the end of the world
Now we're getting to the good stuff. The next three days of our trip were pretty incredible.
The day started out foggy, like the other days so far.
Navigating this river and all of the stuff in it (trees, mud, ice) took some skill. Our skipper was an expert.
Our first stop was on a mudflat, which can appear at different places in the river on different days at different tides.
Thank goodness for rubber boots:
We saw some cabins along the way that you can't exactly drive to:
We crossed where the water turned from muddy to perfectly clear.
Back on the boat... we turned a corner and suddenly the air became very chilly:
Omri grabbed pulled a really tiny iceberg out of the water:
You could almost jump out onto one...
Working our way closer to the glacier:
Shakes Glacier:
Flyby video:
I'm glad V had her cool uncle along on this trip:
That's some cold water:
The river calls:
After lunch we walked on an iceberg!
The skipper got a shot of us from a distance (but he unfortunately sent the photo to us in extremely low-resolution):
One last iceberg for now; this one probably flipped over and that's why its shape is so interesting:
Then it was time to warm up in a tub fed by hot spring water:
Seal hangout, as seen on the way back:
