Minnehaha with cousins

Right after we visited Tia Chelsea and family up north, they followed us back to the Cities for a couple of days. We celebrated Chelsea's birthday at Minnehaha Falls... well, mostly we just chased kids around the park.

Uncle Nate was there too:

Only photo I got of the birthday woman:

The kids begged their uncle to stay longer (but that guy has a will of steel):

There was ice cream involved in the evening:

Just one more of my cuties:

Ze plane and other moments from a fun weekend

We went back up north last weekend for Grandma Linda's birthday celebration. It was good to see this group again:

The group photo was a bit rushed because another party attendee was arriving via airplane!

What a great experience for the kids to get an up close look:

Once airborne, the pilot gave us a flyby:

Lovely night for a fire, mosquitoes notwithstanding:

More beautiful weather the next morning:

State Fair submission 2018

Sorry for the slow-down on the blog this week. I've been concentrating on a video project for our church, and video work is like a black hole for time.

Below is my submission to the Minnesota State Fair fine arts competition. Unfortunately, it didn’t make the cut. It is a composite image of a retired steam engine (on display in Cloquet, MN) placed in a rock-cut found between Gilbert and Virginia, MN that is now part of a bike path. The bit of railroad track you see is a separate photo taken down the street from our place here in Shoreview.

I had been planning for this image since the last time I had a piece accepted into the fair, two years ago. I thought it would be cool to see a locomotive running through this Iron Range landmark. I wish the rock face was more exposed, but it is much more overgrown than it was in my youth. I remember when it was a gravel trail and much less accessible before it became a part of the Mesabi trail system.

Back to the drawing board, I guess. At least I can finally share the image.

More photos of the kids are coming soon!

Old Red Car

Omri and I have started a new Instagram account and YouTube channel where we share some of our engagements with this old red car (and other toy cars and trucks). This undertaking might not be for everyone, but if you enjoy jumping, looping, crashing, and destroying of vehicles, you may want to check it out. In another week or two we'll be giving viewers a closer look at our elaborate cardboard racetrack that we've been pretty excited about.

Here's a sample of some recent exploits:
