Big Island beaches

This first one is called Beach 69 on Wailalea Bay. It had good shade...

... and fun waves.

We bought malasadas (Portuguese fried dough) at a roadside stop and had them as a snack:

Then there was Mauna Kea Beach, which was arguably even more gorgeous, but not as gorgeous as this crew:

Waikoloa Village

During the first part of our trip, we stayed in a condo in Wakoloa Village, a place of eternal sunshine located a little ways north of Kailua-Kona.

I didn't take a lot of photos inside the condo, but here's one of the lanai:

The best part about the place is it came with a pool pass for the Hilton resort right across the street.

Time for a snack:

The kids loved the 175-foot water slide:

There was also a salt water lagoon:

And dolphins!

And cats!

We did a lot of swimming:

There were shops and restaurants within walking distance from our condo. Omri climbed on a natural playground while we waited for dinner at the Lava Lava Beach Club:

Our first look at the Big Island

Okay, I think I'm prepared to finally start posting about our vacation in Hawaii.

If the trip had been planned for a week later, it wouldn't have happened due to the Coronavirus. If it had been a week earlier, it probably wouldn't have been impacted at all. We ended up traveling on a sort of middle ground, where we missed out on a few things and definitely felt the weight of the pandemic but still had an overall great time.

We arrived late at night, with our surroundings under a cover of blackness. The next morning we took our first walk around to see where we were.

There we three generations of ladies in our party...

... and an Omri boy (and, well, me):

We definitely came across some interesting rocks on this trip.

One thing about being on Hawaii is you can feel the vastness of the Pacific surrounding you. At times it was reassuring to be cut off from the rest of the world. At others, it felt a little claustrophobic.

More to come...

Up a tree

The world is a little crazy right now. We're going to do our best to tune it out for a bit (while remaining safely aware). This blog will be quiet until the end of March. I may make some transmissions on Instagram. Stay safe, everyone.

Flip flops in March

The weather was great over the weekend. The kids couldn't wait to try out their flip flops.

Omri worked on his tan:

Jump rope and hopscotch:

Two boys' birthdays

My nephews Ezra and Lennon are turning 12 and 4, respectively, later this month and we were lucky enough to have an early celebration with them.

Grandma Linda provided a delicious Dairy Queen cake.

Omri considered it closely:

Happy birthday, guys!
