A Tuesday in March
Okay, this is the "day in the life" video I mentioned previously. I shot it last Tuesday and it truly was as normal of a day as could be imagined. That may make it dull for some viewers, but I am very happy to have something like this as a keepsake from this period of my life with young kids. The effort that went into this project was not huge, so I think I'll do this again from time to time, maybe during different seasons of the year.
I'm not sure I ever made an official announcement on this blog that I have been working part-time since last July. I've been wanting to write more about it, but I've been sort of seeing how the situation evolves first. I feel very fortunate to be able to afford to spend more time at home with the kids. The day you are about to watch would look a lot different if I was away at work from 7:00 - 5:00, as was the case before.
Seeing the video makes me wish I could record every day because even though the major beats of each day are similar, there are so many unique, cute moments that happen and they are so easy to forget. The day after this video was taken, Omri was playing with toys in the sink and said something funny and I remember thinking, "I wish I was recording this!" Today, I have already forgotten what it was he said.
A few more notes:
- As much as I love spending time with my family, the 1-2 hours before they wake up in the morning is a highlight of my day.
- Keep in mind that this is a day from my perspective, not R's. She does a lot of work around the house and with the kids that didn't get captured here, like when I'm out on my walk for instance. She also takes one for the team by going into the office.
- The music you hear is what I happened to be listening to on this particular day, mostly U2 b-sides and the La La Land soundtrack, with some of the kids' tunes mixed in. In the shots where you can hear a woman's voice, it's either R off camera or a podcast.
- It was a cold and WINDY day, so we didn't get outside much.
- This was shot entirely on my dSLR, which needs to be manually focused and exposed when in video mode. I pointed the camera at myself for more narration but it was so hard to focus without looking through the viewfinder that I ended up cutting most of those clips.
- There were many fun moments missed because I didn't get the camera rolling quick enough.
- The kids are pretty comfortable being in front of the camera, so I don't think it influenced their behavior much--a good thing for this type of video!

Upcoming projects
Expect a slower week than usual on the blog. I'm spending my time on a couple of projects: 1) Omri's overdue second year photo slideshow and 2) a "day in the life" video. I shot the latter yesterday and will need some time to edit. Just wanted to give you a heads up.
